Benahavis is one of the most mountainous villages on the western Costa del Sol. Its name roughly translates into ‘Son of Havis’, the Havis originating from a previous Moorish ruler. The Arabic occupation established a stronghold in Montemayor Castle. Located on the highest mountain in the locality, a steep winding road leads to its prominence in the area. There are five beaches within reasonable driving distance to Benahavis. The closest is San Pedro de Alcantera about 7 km away.
