Fantastic Autumn Break Destinations


People may think of autumn is a bit of a depressing time of year with summer over and Christmas is still many weeks away, yet what perhaps people tend to forget is that autumn is a beautiful time which we should enjoy much more. Here are some of the very best places in the world where you can enjoy the beauty of nature this autumn.

Cotswolds, Engalnd

In the Cotswolds the National Aboretum is considered as one of the top 10 must see gardens in the world. This beautiful garden is best viewed in October and November when the Aboretum's 18,000 tress plus its world famous collection of Japanese Maples create a glorious patchwork of colour. While in the Cotswold the beautiful and historic city of Bath is right on your doorstep. The city and its many wonderful attractions including the world famous Roman Baths and Regency Tea Rooms


New England, USA

Why not become a leaf peeper this autumn and head to New England. A leaf Peeper incase you were wondering is the name given to the thousands of tourist who head to New England to watch the leaves turn to red and gold. The magnificent New England forest spread across six states and start to change at different times. The northern most forest in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont start to change first. Then in late October and November the southern forest of Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island start to turn beautiful yellows, oranges, red and gold's.

Northumberland National Park, Engalnd

Take a walk through the oaks at North Wood or through any of the ancient woodland in Northumberland and you may just well spot one of the most popular natives, the Red squirrel. While in Northumberland visit the Lady's Well, an ancient spring which was once used by the Romans.


Sherwood Forest, Engalnd

Home to the legendary English hero Robin Hood Sherwood Forest is also home to some beautiful ancient trees. The second most famous resident of the forest happens to be one of these trees, the Major Oak, which legends has it was the hideout for Robin Hood. While in the forest why not don the green hat and pick up a bow and try to be Robin Hood at the Sherwood Forest Visitors centre.

Ballyhoura Mountains, Ireland

Stroll through the beautiful forest of Ballyhoura Mountains in Co. Limerick and see the leaves turn from summer green to autumn reds and gold's. There are miles upon miles of walking and mountain biking trails in the area allowing you to seem more of the autumn scenery.

Venetian Hills, Italy

Make the most of the last of the Italian sun by walking through the Venetian Hills. Tails will take you through woods of ash and oak and will also take you past local vineyards where you can stop off to sample some of its produce.

Quebec, Canada

See the Maple leafs turn as red as the Canadian flag this autumn. While visiting the vast forests of eastern Canada a stop off in Quebec is a must. One of the oldest cities in North America Quebec's medieval centre is a designated UN World Heritage Site. The city and region is predominantly French speaking so make sure you take your phrase book with you.

Lake Vyrnwy, Wales

See the beautiful autumnal colours reflected in the mountain side lake Vyrnwy in Wales. The lake makes a great romantic getaway thanks to its stunning scenery. There are also miles of walking trails which will take you through woodland, across moorland and up mountains.

South Downs, England

Take a trip to see the newest National Park in all its autumnal glory. The South Downs is a beautiful area in the south of England and is close to Brighton and London. There are numerous walking trails and wildlife walks throughout the park allowing you to take in all the wonders this time of year has to offer.

Scotland

There are so many fantastic places in Scotland to visit this autumn. Whether it's a romantic stroll along a loch, a hike across the moors or a walk in the woods you are sure to have a wonderful and memorable time
