Boston science attractions

Boston has a long history of scientific achievement, so it comes as no surprise to find that it is also home to lots of specialist museums for science and nature fans, as well as plenty of zoos and aquariums. So if you have an interest in science and nature, make sure you check out a few of the following places next time you're in Boston:

Franklin Park Zoo: This huge zoo has over two hundred species of animal within its bounds, including all the usual animals you'd expect to see in a large zoo such as gorillas, giraffes and camels alongside less traditional fare such as tree kangaroos and tapirs. Part of the Zoo New England network, the Franklin Park Zoo is divided up into several themed sections, including the Tropical Forest, Tiger Tales, Giraffe Savannah, Franklin Farm, Serengeti Crossing, Outback Trail, Bird's World, Kalahari Kingdom and Butterfly Landing. Admission costs $11 for adults, $9.50 for seniors, $6 for kids, and free for babies and toddlers.

Garden in the Woods: Botany buffs will want to make a bee line for Boston's Garden in the Woods, which is the headquarters and botanic garden of the New England Wild Flower Society. Over fifteen hundred different plant species are spread across a massive forty five acre garden, and the New England Garden of Rare and Endangered Plants is a must see for any fan of botany fan. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and students, and $4 for minors. Guided tours are provided for no extra charge.

Museum of Science: The Boston museum of science can boast a planetarium, a giant IMAX screen, and over six hundred interactive exhibits that are enjoyable for growing brains of any vintage, so whether you just fancy an informative, fun day out, or you're looking for somewhere to take the kids for the day, you should definitely stop in by the Museum of Science. Entry is $16 for adults, $14 for seniors and students, and $13 for minors.

New England Aquarium: Although over two thirds of the earth's surface is covered with water, we know less about the underwater world than we do about the surface of the moon! However, you can find out plenty about the strange and beautiful underwater world at the New England Aquarium, which features more than seventy exhibits including sea turtles, seals, a coral reef, jellyfish and much more besides. You can watch whales on the waterfront, and children can get to paddle up close with small marine life such as starfish at the tide pool exhibit. Entry is $17.95 for adults, $9.95 for children between the ages of 3 and 11, and free for babies.
